Europe sustainability funds pass €6tn in assets

Sustainability funds in Europe have exceeded €6 trillion in assets representing a 24% increase in 2024.

Research by Maples Group shows the increase across Article 8 and 9 funds based on a survey of 27000 funds across the Ireland and Luxembourg domiciles. Of these, 33% are now sustainability funds. The research also shows that 1800 of these funds are based on private equity and real assets strategies and that 43% of all ETFs are now classified as sustainability-focused.

Ian Conlon, funds and investment management partner and European lead of the sustainable investing group at Maples, said, “2024 was undoubtedly a challenging year for the sustainability space. Growing anti-ESG sentiment could have stifled the flow of capital towards sustainable funds. For asset levels to have grown, to now exceed €6 trillion, is truly remarkable and demonstrates not only the resilience of this sector but the continuing demand for sustainable products from European investors.”
