SEB bank has predicted that green bond issuance should reach $500bn in 2021.

The issuance from governments and corporations comes after more than $270bn in green was issued in 2020. The increase is expected to come partly from coronavirus induced fund raising and an increase in government bond issuance, especially from the EU as part of their pandemic recovery funding. Meanwhile, HSBC has said that green bond issuance in 2021 should reach $310bn to $360bn and may be hampered by the EU’s new green bond standards which will not be completed until the end of 2021.
