The Institute of International Finance says 2020 will be a “climate super year” for investment as demand for ESG continues to increase.
In a recent research report, the institute notes that inflows to ETFs have reached $40 billion so far this year, an increase of 65% from the same period in 2018. It also suggests that next year could be ‘climate turning point’ where the possibility of global warming being limited to 1.5°C will only be possible if global emissions peak by 2020.
Meanwhile, the Climate Bonds Initiative has announced that green bond issuance worldwide has surpassed the US$200bn mark expected for 2019, well outstripping the 2018 total of $173bn.
