Green bonds in Japan

Japan’s Ministry of the Environment has introduced Green Bond Guidelines in an effort to encourage green bond issuance.

A new report by Clifford Chance says that Japan’s MoE is looking to increase the visibility of green bonds and reduce the cost and administrative burden relating to their issuance. The report say the guidelines provide a general overview of green bonds, and the criteria and procedures for their issuance including the use of proceeds, the process for
project evaluation and selection, the management of proceeds and reporting.
