The fund strategy aims for a 20% higher score on ESG criteria than the MSCI Emerging Markets Index. Robeco say it will look to reduce the environmental impact of greenhouse gases, water use, waste and energy consumption by 20% compared to the benchmark, and applies a values-based exclusion list and includes voting and engagement.

The fund uses a quantitative stock selection strategy which ranks stocks according to sustainability criteria as well as their expected future relative performance using the factors: valuation, quality, momentum, resulting in a well-diversified portfolio with a low tracking error relative to the index.
