COP26: FCA publishes ESG discussion paper

The UK’s FCA has published a discussion paper inviting views on potential ESG criteria to  label investment products.

The paper entitled, “Sustainability Disclosure Requirements and Investment labels”, aims to help consumers navigate their sustainability characteristics. The FCA is also gathering feedback on supporting entity-level and product-level disclosures. The FCA says the feedback will guide the FCA’s policy design in this area, ahead of consultation on new proposals in spring next year.

Th paper forms part of the FCA’s new ESG Strategy released this week. The strategy sets out the FCA’s role in supporting the transition to a sustainable economy, working with industry, listed companies, government and international partners.

Speaking at COP26, Nikhil Rathi, Chief Executive of the FCA, will also announce that the FCA will confirm final rules, which align to TCFD standards, on disclosures for a wider scope of listed issuers, as well as asset managers, life insurers and FCA-regulated pension providers, by the end of 2021.
