The COP26 conference has seen leaders pledge to cut methane gas emissions to reduce the impact of climate change.
The Global Methane Pledge saw over 100 countries commit to cutting methane emissions by 30% by 2030 from 2020 levels. The signatories cover almost 50% of global methane emissions which are believed to account for 30% of global warming. Signatories include Brazil, one of the top five methane emitters, although China, Russia and India have not signed. The US has outlined a proposal to reduce its emissions in the oil and gas sector from flaring and infrastructure leaks.
