Refinitive looks to improve ESG ratings

Refinitiv will seek to strip out subjectivity from its sustainable fund ratings due to be launched in Q2 2020.

Robert Jenkins, global head of Lipper research at Refinitiv, has said that the ratings will score funds on purely objective criteria. The new service will look to overcome the lack of a standard definition on ESG in sustainability ratings. Refinitiv says scores will be derived from Refinitiv’s proprietary ESG company scoring methodology that seeks to focus on an objective and transparent assessment of disclosed company ESG data.
